Sustainable livelihood for ethnic minority youth in some districts in the West of Nghe An

On June 26, 2019, the ceremony to break ground and start construction of new facilities of Thoi An Hoi 2 Primary School was held in Thoi An Hoi commune, Ke Sach district, Soc Trang province. The construction of new facilities at Thoi An Hoi 2 Primary School is carried out under the program "Improving access and quality of primary education for children in Ke Sach district, Soc Trang province". The People's Committee of Ke Sach district, KT&G Welfare Fund, ActionAid Vietnam and Aid for social proection programme Foundation Vietnam (AFM) collaborated on this project to build two schools. Another school will be built in Ke Thanh commune at a later date.

Education is always at the core of sustainable development and ensures that everyone enjoys the right to live with dignity, playing an important role in helping people realize economic and social rights. The State of Vietnam has placed education at the heart of the Socio-Economic Development Strategy for the period of 2011 - 2020 towards sustainable development.

Thoi An Hoi 2 Primary School, Thoi An Hoi commune was built in 1993. The school's infrastructure and facilities are still limited after many years of operation as sanitation systems are not convenient and friendly for students to use. The school yard is bare, often flooded during the rainy season, making it difficult for students to access a quality education. Therefore, the project proposes to build five new classrooms, toilets and drainage systems, as well as upgrade school grounds and fences around the school to improve the quality of facilities for children. The new project has a budget of 2.5 billion VND.
