Tax Justice for Women’s Rights Global Days of Action

8th -24th March 2017
Joining hands with the Global Alliance for Tax Justice, member organizations and partners in many countries around the world, ActionAid Vietnam (AAV) and Aid for social protection program Foundation Vietnam (AFV) partook in the response to the campaign # Tax Justice for Women’s Rights Global Days of Action. The campaign began on the International Women’s Day 8th March and will continue with the Intergovernmental Annual Meeting held by the UN Commission on the Status of Women to the closing sessions.

Ms. Hoang Phuong Thao, Executive Director of ActionAid Vietnam, said: “The rights of women and girls around the world are being threatened by discriminatory tax policies at national, regional and international level. In Vietnam and many other countries, current laws are enabling multinational corporations to evade taxes in many cases. That is the reason why the national budget, which is considered the main source of public services, is in deficit.”

Ms. Hoang Phuong Thao – Executive Director of AAV

Women and girls, especially those living in poverty, are most affected when public services lack investment funding. Tax justice plays a significant role in ensuring the delivery of public services to help reduce gender-based violence, expand access to public health services for women and girls, guarantee that more girls can access quality public education and support women in equitable economic development while reducing the burden of unpaid care work.

If you fight for women’s rights, call for tax justice! Join us and call on governments to act for tax justice, for a better world for women and girls!
