Despite Vietnam’s initial success in the efforts to control the first three outbreaks in 2020 and early 2021, the country has recently been hit hard by the fourth wave of the COVID-19[1] pandemic since April 27th 2021: 37 out of 63 provinces and municipalities in Vietnam has been heavily affected by the pandemic, of which Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Giang and Bac Ninh Provinces are the three biggest clusters. The numbers of positive cases are 288, 2,678 and 951 respectively, which has resulted in 10 million people being kept in social distancing in Ho Chi Minh city and hundreds of thousands of people quarantining at home or at centralized quarantine areas in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh.
As of June 14th, 2021, there were 10,337 confirmed cases with 58 deaths of COVID-19 in Vietnam, which was more than double the previous number of confirmed cases in the previous three waves combined. Especially, with the newfound dangerous variant, which is highly transmissible, it is still uncertain how long until the impact of this wave lingers.
It is certain that the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted people from all walks of life in Vietnam in different ways. People are losing their jobs and unable to earn income to support themselves and their families. Mobility is strictly restricted, making more and more people, children, elders, health care workers getting more difficult to access to decent food on daily basis.
In response to these dire circumstances and in hope of assisting the people in need during these difficult times, the Meals of Hope – Decent food for those needed due to COVID-19 initiative aims to support the most needy groups in Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Ho Chi Minh City with one-month worth of food and nutrition needs.
With your kind contribution, AFV will provide meals for 15 days to 6,300 people and children affected by the COVID-19 pandemic:
